What is Dutasteride?

Dutasteride is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor and inhibits the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone(DHT).Dutasteride is the same group with finasteride.Dutasteride is effective on both type 1 and type 2 but
finasteride is effective alone on type 2.Clinical trial conducted by GlaxoSmithKline (EPICS trial),revealed no difference between finasteride and dutasteride.This drug is designed to prevent unwanted growth of the prostate gland, was intended for use in hair loss but was abandoned at the end of 2002.The reason is not known exactly...
Dutasteride has similar the side effects of finasteride.The incidence of this side effect is much higher than in the use of dutasteride.

Known side effects:

  • Impotence
  • Decreased libido
  • Decreased sperm
  • The decrease in concentration Sexual
  • Ejaculation disorders
  • gynecomastia
  • Adverse events during intercourse
  • Middle ear infection
  • Elevation of liver enzymes and hepatic steatosis
  • Skin dryness and skin aging
  • In muscle performance / hardness / strength decreased
  • Teratogenic effects
