What is finasteride?


(Androgen is all of the masculine hormone)
DHT is the main cause of male pattern hair loss. DHT is a hormone resulting from the alteration of the  testosterone.
Finasteride inhibits the enzyme that converts testosterone to DHT, which blocks the conversion of testosterone to DHT thereby prevents hair loss.Finasteride is a drug inhibiting prostate growth emerged under the name Propecia in 1992 then Finasteride was approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) in 1997 and has been used in the treatment of hair loss.

Finasteride (1mg) were tested on male subjects for 5 years and 48% of men with hair loss has been observed regrowth hairs also has been shown to stop hair loss in 42% of subjects.Finasteride containing drugs are sold under the Proscar and Propecia brands on the market. 

Finasteride (Propecia and Proscar) are currently accepted as the most successful drug for the treatment of hair loss linked DHT ,all over the world. But there are also significant side effects in addition to the great success of the hair loss finasteride-treatment .

Finasteride is known to cause side effects;

  •  impotence  
  •  Decreased sex drive
  •  Reduction in sperm count 
  •  Gynecomastia (breast enlargement in males)  
  •  Otitis media  
  •  Weight gain  
These side effects are seen due to the decrease in the level of DHT in the body but There are many useful tasks of the DHT on the human body. 

Some useful tasks of DHT hormone in the human body ;

  • Growth of the penis and testicles 
  • Sperm Production 
  • Erection 
  • The secretion of the skin and ear secretions 
  • Protein Synthesis 
  • Courage growth in the brain (Aggression)      
In conclusion we can say that ;
DHT does not need to be treated because it is not a virus or a harmful bacteria into the body.Drugs containing finasteride inhibits the body's normal operating.Reduction of DHT in the body can lead to very dangerous consequences.
Attention: Finasteride can be absorbed through the skin. Therefore, pregnant women should strictly avoid contact with these drugs.
